The town has had a sister city arrangement since 1988 with East Dumbertonshire, Scotland, and has a youth exchange programme mainly by junior high students. The oak tree was planted on the Rita Road to commemorate a Scottish lady, Rita, who was married to Masataka Taketsuru of Nikka Whisky.
It has been an annual event since the plantation of the Green Alliance
oak to take pictures of the kindergarten children who attended the plantation
ceremony in 2002. These pictures give the message of the passage of time,
showing the growth of not only the tree but also the children. |
